We spent $1274.71 in food last month.
Our budget says $850.
Chad laughs at me because we'll be driving down the road & I'll be like, "I need to eat...now...Oh, look--there's O'Charley's! Can we p-lllease go there?"
But it's not all me. I had to do our checkbook registry today because something about something about one of our bills not being paid in 2 months & they were going to turn something off if we didn't pay reminded me that we have a budget meeting for a reason around this house. And by checkbook registry, I mean excel doc, fully labeled, dated, calculated, amen. I love stuff like that. But I started noticing that the $25 cash Chad gets for lunch each week isn't exactly going as far as it's supposed to. The man likes sushi. But should it cost $25-$30 per meal? He is eating like a king!! I told him he's going back on the paper bag budget till we can make up for all the extra fish. I mean, I have an excuse for eating out, right?
My sweet hubby, though...he takes being a team player seriously. When I was pregnant with Neena, he gained 25 lbs. When we finally realized how fat he had gotten by the end of the pregnancy & he topped the scales at just over 200 at my dr's appt, my doctor sympathized, saying, "She's eating for two; you're eating for three!" So do I need to let him splurge on a little sushi? He is working 3-5 jobs (depending on how you count it), feeding my every craving, & taking Neena off my hands when I'm sick. Maybe I let this go just this once...
On the Neena front, she is swimming without floaties now! And her face is changing; I see more definition, less "baby." And she is getting so darn cute. She also has the wittiest things to say. I love to watch her mind think things through. She uses so many descriptive words & explains herself so well. If only she could contain herself when she gets excited around other kids & not attack the cat every time she sees her. *Please, Lord, let her understand what is appropriate for a baby!!*
I am now 3 months :) & the babe is the size of a lime!! WooHoo! Thank you Lord!

We're spreadsheet budget nerds, too. I find it's best to separate groceries from other food. We have a "FOG" category that's for food-on-the-go (single bottled sodas, McD's, etc.), another category for dining, and then a big one for groceries. It helps us see where money is being wasted and/or when we're eating out too much. Generally, doing that raises our grocery bill, too, because the food in our kitchen goes bad.
I sympathize w/ you, though, because Amy spends an insane amount at Starbucks, unless I keep her in check.
